We appreciate that the school day can be long and quite hard work so at the Highland Fling After School Club our emphasis is very much on having fun with friends in a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere both indoors and out, as well as getting the opportunity to try a wide range of activities presented by our staff each day.
For us after school care isn’t simply about baby sitting your children but an opportunity for them to try and discover lots of new and exciting things. We have put together a team of highly trained and diverse staff with the intention of helping every child nurture whatever interests and passions they might have.
SPORTS & ACTIVE PLAY
Whether you are into football, hockey, rugby, basketball, volleyball or any other sports we have staff to teach you new tricks and keep you active. We are also lucky enough to have 2 local parks available so the chance to burn off some energy in the fresh air is always an option too.
DRAMA
Our drama and dance teachers are in every day with lots of fun games and activities to keep our budding actors and actresses happy. Children also get the opportunity to develop, write and star in their very own shows, performing on a real stage in front of a real audience!
FOREST SCHOOLS
Whittling, fire lighting, foraging and campfire cooking are all free to try with our team of Forest School leaders.
For those with a passion for Nature we have plenty of opportunity to learn about the different wild plants and animals we have around us
ARTS & CRAFTS
Our team of professionally trained art staff are on hand to let children try everything from photography to sculpture, painting to print making.
We also have different crafts to try every day - jewellery making, junk modelling, nature crafts and many, many more...
OUTDOOR ADVENTURES
With local beaches, parks, hills and forests there are always adventures to be had. Whether we go on foot or in our own mini buses there is always something new and exciting to try and explore.
CHILL OUT & RELAX
After a busy day it may be time for some time to unwind and relax. Our quiet room with comfy couch and cushions is the perfect place to sit and read a book or chat with friends. We also have lots of board games, chess, lego and even our very own Highland Fling card games for those who need a mental challenge.
SESSIONS
AFTER SCHOOL
Mon to Thurs 3pm - 6pm
Fri 12 - 4pm or 6pm
We pick up the children directly from schools within the Portobello/ Duddingston catchment area, either on foot or via minibus. The Primary 1 children come back to Highland Fling House to relax in familiar surroundings whilst the Primary 2-7s head over to our designated After School Club venue at Duddingston Kirk.
